The coordinates of the Arctic Circle are in constant flux due to movements of land masses and ocean currents. Vanishing Point grows into an allegory for life in the north, where traditional lifestyles and the environment are in transition.

This project started from my desire to visualise the ongoing change, which is both external and internal. I packed my car and went on a tour around the northern edge cities during the Covid-19 lockdown soon realising that the desolation I was faced with was less to do with the pandemic and more to do with an existential change caused by depopulation, the crumbling away of traditional industries and global warming.

Ever since then, I’ve kept photographing my surroundings in the North where I’ve been faced with changes in the fragile nature of the Arctic. My working method is erratic and consists of mostly aimless wanderings reflecting the ambiguity of the coordinates of the Arctic Circle.

The question that I keep coming back to is: what does the future hold for the vast peripheries of the North?
